Did I mess up my cello bow?
I’m not sure if I loosened my bow or not after I played, but if I didn’t, it was tight for between 20 to 45 minutes. When I went to put my cello up I noticed that my bow was still kind of tight. Like I loosened it but I didn’t loosen it all the way. I loosened it some more and it didn’t seem that bad. I’m kind of freaking out right now so can you help me?
If it didn’t seem that bad, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Often, if you live in an area with a changing climate, the wood will change a little bit and your bow may tighten/loosen a bit differently, but as long as it still tightens the way it should when you’re playing, and loosens enough to give it a break when you’re not playing, I think it’s fine. If you’re still worried (i.e. if the hair doesn’t tighten, doesn’t loosen at all), take it to a luthier and ask for help.
