Making Your Ribbon Hair Bows
Making ribbon hair bows is easy and fun. When making ribbon hair bows you have a variety of colors and materials at your disposal and it is easy for kids to join in the creative process. You can use your completed bows to accentuate clothing, control wild hair, and to be the perfect accessory for a ponytail. The following is an easy to follow guide on how to make ribbon bows for your hair.
Materials required:
Colored Ribbon – Grosgrain ribbon or other ribbons as desired
Hot glue supplies – gun, sticks, electricity
Clips or fasteners
Velcro or fastener
Metal wire that is twistable
To begin making ribbon hair bows you will want to cut a length of ribbon. The amount of ribbon you need will be determined by what size bow you would like to create. Obviously a bow for an infant would be of a smaller variety, requiring less width and less length. For an infant baby bow you, for example, you could use red grosgrain ribbon with a width less than 2″ and a length of roughly 15″.
For an older child increase the length and size of your ribbon as needed.
A simple hair bow is tied in the same way that you tie your shoe, with a loop and a twirl. Create the bow with your ribbon, practice makes perfect. Don’t worry about making mistakes when as you cannot damage your ribbon and can still undue your work at this stage and start over. When your bow is tied and ready, cut the ends either with fray shears, or normal scissors to create the desired edge for your bow. Make sure your bow loops are of similar size and then clip the ends of the ribbon with your fastener.
Next you will be using your glue gun, the glue gun is certainly hot, so be careful if working with children that noone gets injured. The bow should be fastened at this point by the clip, attach your velcro fastener to the ribbon and use the glue gun sparingly to attach. Remember the glue gun can be quite messy if you use too much, so only apply as much glue as is necessary.
That is all there is to it for a simple hair bow. There are certainly more difficult projects including corker bows and hair blow flourishes that you can include for your next ribbon project but we will cover them in a more advanced tutorial.

How do you make a bow out of home supplies?
I made a bow out of a broken hanger and a flexible string didn’t work very well do you guys know how to make a bow out of home supplies?
Well, the reason your “bow” didn’t work is likely because A) the coat-hanger wire bends too easily – and stays bent, and B) the elastic “string” stretches too much.
